What salt cell warranties actually say

A salt cell warranty is not one number. It changes with the product line and with where you bought the part, and some of these manufacturers contradict their own paperwork. Everything below is quoted from the documents.

Checked 63 manufacturer manuals on file Spot an error?

The single most common mistake owners make is treating a warranty as one figure per cell. It is not. The same physical cell can carry different terms depending on which part number it was sold under and which channel it came from, and that is the fine print that decides a claim.

Three things the documents say that the listings do not

Hayward contradicts itself on whether coverage transfers

Hayward's warranty term sheets say coverage transfers to a new owner under conditions and continues from the original installation date. Its own archived owner's manuals, including the current one for the W3 line, say the opposite: each warranty is not transferable and applies only to the original owner. Both are current Hayward documents. We publish neither as the answer, because asserting either one means asserting something Hayward's own paperwork denies.

Jandy excludes products bought online

Jandy's limited warranty states it does not apply to Jandy branded products purchased through the Internet or other e-commerce platforms, with an exception for valves under three inches, parts, and pool product accessories. Whether a replacement cell reads as an excluded product or as an included part is the question that decides whether an online buyer has any coverage at all, and the document does not resolve it. We have not resolved it by guessing.

Pentair's terms are decided by where you bought it

Pentair's base limited warranty is sixty days. Anything longer requires registration, a sales receipt, and in many cases a qualified installer's invoice within sixty days of installation, which, read plainly, puts anyone who installs it themselves at a disadvantage. Its TradeGrade line must be bought from a physical retailer, builder or service company, and buying it online drops it to the sixty day term.

The cross-brand table

One row per warranty variant, not per cell, because terms vary by product line and by where the part was bought rather than by the cell itself. A row appears once its term has been checked against the manual it came from. Watch for the marked row: it is the only variant here whose exact part numbers we have confirmed against the manufacturer's own scope language, which means it is the only line on this page you can hold up against the box in your hand and be sure it applies. Every other row quotes a real term whose mapping to a specific part number we have not yet closed, and says so.

Warranty terms, brand by brand

One row per warranty variant, not per cell, because terms change with the product line and with where the part was bought.

Columns not shown because most rows have not cleared a second reading yet: coverage, transferable. They appear once they answer for most of this table rather than for a few rows of it.

What to do with this before you buy anything

Keep proof of purchase, because more than one manufacturer in this set falls back to the manufacturing date code when a buyer cannot produce a receipt, and a date code is always earlier than the day you bought it. Register the product where registration is what unlocks the longer term. And check the channel condition before the price, because on two of these brands the cheapest listing is the one that shortens or voids the coverage.

Coverage ended? Then the question changes from what you are owed to what to buy, and the two are decided by different documents. Here is the honest math on the branded part against the generic.

The questions people actually ask

Every answer below comes from the same documents the table does, and where the documents do not settle something, it says so rather than picking a side.

Is a Hayward salt cell warranty prorated?

No Hayward residential term sheet in this archive contains proration language at all. That is a documented absence, checked against every Hayward residential sheet held here, not an assumption from silence. The commercial sheet is a different document and does prorate, which is why the residential answer is scoped to residential.

What Hayward publishes, term by term

How long is the warranty on a replacement salt cell?

There is no single answer, and that is the finding rather than a dodge. The same physical Hayward cell carries three different published terms depending on the part number and the sales channel, and Pentair changes its term based on where you bought it. The table above is one row per published variant for that reason.

Does a salt cell warranty transfer if I buy the house?

Hayward's own documents disagree with each other. Its warranty term sheets say coverage transfers to a new owner and runs from the original installation date; its owner's manuals say the warranty is not transferable and applies only to the original owner. Both are current Hayward documents, so this site publishes neither as the answer and points you at the manufacturer.

Does buying online void my salt cell warranty?

It depends on the brand and the answers are genuinely different. Jandy excludes internet purchases of branded products from its limited warranty outright. Pentair keeps the warranty but cuts it to one year, parts only. Hayward splits its catalog into a line approved for online sale and a line that is not. CircuPool publishes no channel restriction at all.

What each manufacturer publishes about channels

Do I have to register the product to get the warranty?

Not for base coverage on any brand checked here. Hayward offers an extra ninety days for registering, which is a bonus rather than a condition. Pentair requires registration and paperwork for its longer bundled terms specifically, not for the base warranty.

I lost the receipt. Am I out of luck?

Not necessarily, but it costs you time. More than one of these manufacturers falls back to the manufacturing date code stamped on the unit when a buyer cannot produce proof of purchase, and a date code is always earlier than the day you bought it. That difference comes out of your coverage, so photograph the code now.

This is a reading of published documents, not legal advice. The manufacturer decides claims, and the document that came with your part is the one that governs it.
