The comparison runs the opposite way to its reputation
The story everyone tells is that the aftermarket warranty is the thin one. On paper the aftermarket is the side that shows its working: 3 of these makers print an explicit year-by-year proration schedule, so you can see exactly what year four is worth before you buy. No Hayward residential term sheet in the archive contains proration language at all.
That is not the same as the aftermarket warranty being better. It is shorter, it is non-transferable where the makers state a transfer rule, and a prorated year is a discount rather than a replacement. It does mean the comparison people argue about is not the comparison the documents describe.
The one place the argument ends
Works only with a genuine S3 Series Hayward salt cell
On every other Hayward system a non-genuine cell costs you the warranty, which is a decision
a buyer can make with open eyes. On the S3 generation Hayward states the system works only
with a genuine S3 cell, and its own service documentation describes a message for a cell that
fails that check. Hayward's own general rule is blunt about the reverse direction too: If your chlorinator does not offer the cross referenced selection, do not use the TurboCell S3.
So the first question is not which cell is better value. It is which controller is on your wall. Which cells fit which Hayward generation is here.
What is still missing here, and why it is missing
No prices, because no price capture has been taken and a made-up range would undo the only thing this site sells. No lifespan comparison, because none of these makers publishes a rated life in hours and neither does Hayward, so any hours-per-dollar figure would have an invented denominator. No verdict on which cell lasts longer, because that needs owner data we have not collected honestly yet.
