Hayward salt cells, read out of Hayward's own paperwork
The same physical Hayward cell carries terms from 12 to 36 months depending on which SKU you bought and where you bought it, and Hayward publishes no rated life for any of them.

SaltCellCheck is independent. It is not affiliated with, authorized by, sponsored by or endorsed by any manufacturer named on this page, and all product names and trademarks belong to their owners.
Hayward is the most replaced salt cell in the country and it is also where the fine print does the most damage. Three things decide what you actually get, and none of them is the cell itself: the SKU it was sold under, the channel it came from, and which generation of controller is bolted to your equipment pad.
Works only with a genuine S3 Series Hayward salt cell
That sentence is the single most expensive thing a Hayward owner can fail to read. Everywhere else in this category the cheaper cell costs you a warranty. On the S3 it costs you a working system.
Three generations, three different answers
The badge on the box is not enough. These are the same brand and the same job, and what they accept is not the same.
-
AquaRite
The long-running base controller. Its own manual sets the cell type on the board and its owner documentation names the T-CELL family.
What fits an AquaRite -
AquaRite 900
The 900 keys the same on-screen cell settings to different part numbers than the base AquaRite, so a listing that says it fits an AquaRite is not evidence about this controller.
What fits an AquaRite 900 -
AquaRite S3
The S3 is the exception that changes the whole decision. On every other Hayward system a non-Hayward cell costs you the warranty. On this one Hayward states the system works only with its own S3 cell.
What Hayward states about the S3
Hayward warranty, by variant
One row per published variant, not per cell. 4 rows, every term read off a Hayward line sheet and checked a second time against the same document.
| Cell | Variant | Term | Coverage | Proration | Confirmed for your part? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| T-CELL-15 | Standard cell, Expert Line, purchased individually | 36 months | parts only | No proration language in the document | Check your part number on the box |
| T-CELL-15 | W3 open-line SKU | 36 months | parts only | No proration language in the document | Confirmed for this part |
| T-CELL-15 | W-suffix cell | 12 months | parts only | No proration language in the document | Check your part number on the box |
| T-CELL-15 | Purchased replacement part | No single term published | Not resolved | No proration language in the document | Check your part number on the box |
In plain sentences: the open-line W3 cell and the trade Expert Line cell both carry 36 months parts only, the W-suffix cell carries 12, and no Hayward residential sheet in the archive contains proration language at all. The full cross-brand warranty table, with every source named.
The number Hayward does not publish
Every cost question an owner asks divides by rated life, and Hayward states none. We searched 30 distinct Hayward documents, French sections included, and found every other hour figure in the range: a 500 hour inspection reminder, polarity intervals, salt dispersion waits. No cell life. Pentair, for contrast, states 10,000 hours and meters it on the unit.
A documented absence is a finding, not a gap. Knowing that the figure does not exist is what stops you comparing your cell against a number somebody made up.
What we hold on every cell, brand by brandThe S3 asymmetry
Compatibility on the S3 points in two directions at once, and every listing treats it as one yes or no.
T-Cell connection. Only supports TCELLS3
The following chlorinators are only compatible with TCELLS340, TCELLS340X25 and TCELLS340W models • AQ-RITE (AquaRite - 2008 and earlier) - firmware earlier than version 1.5, no configuration necessary • AQ-RITE-XL (AquaRite XL), no configuration necessary
