What changed, and when

Everything published here is dated, and so is everything corrected. This is the record, including the corrections that went against us.

Checked 63 manufacturer manuals on file Spot an error?

Manufacturer documents were briefly downloadable from this site. They are not now.

  • For a period on 25 July, the build process attached 58 archived manufacturer PDFs to this website as downloadable files. No page linked them and they were never listed in the sitemap, so reaching one required knowing a generated address, but they were served publicly and that is what matters.
  • The cause was a single line of build configuration. It counted the documents on file, which is a number this site prints, and in doing so it also copied every one of them into the published site.
  • Every one of those addresses now returns not found, checked on both the live domain and the hosting address, with caching bypassed. The published site contains no manufacturer documents of any kind.
  • Those documents belong to their manufacturers. This site quotes short passages from them for comparison and commentary, which is ordinary practice, and it should never have been redistributing whole files. It is now a written rule here that full third-party documents never ship to this website.

First pages published

  • Published the diagnostic hub with Hayward’s warning light descriptions quoted verbatim from its own manual, separating what a flashing light means from what a steady one means.
  • Published the warranty findings, including that Hayward’s term sheets and its own owner’s manuals contradict each other on whether coverage transfers to a new owner.
  • Published the cleaning guide with each manufacturer’s own acid dilution. They differ: two brands specify four parts water to one part acid, one specifies ten to one.
  • Corrected a replacement part number in our own data before publication. We had recorded the housing part number where the cell part number belongs.
  • Recorded that the Hayward AquaRite has no light reading CHECK CELL, contrary to how the phrase is used across the category. Its cell light reads INSPECT CELL.

Why this page exists

A maintained reference and an abandoned one look identical from the outside. This is the difference, stated with dates. Corrections appear here whichever way they resolve.
